Testing my new A7RV!

What better way to test a new camera than by taking photos of the most photographed animal on the planet… the house cat.

This is Nala… or Lucy… or Plopsy… she is a cat of many names. She is a sweetheart with the reputation of a warrior. Witness her roar!

Blueberry is our Australian Shepard, and he is Nala’s reluctant best friend. I say reluctant because she gives him visible anxiety, after having taken a few random swipes at him with her claws. But they really do love each other and will snuggle and groom each other all the time.

The A7RV has animal detect ai autofocus. It is pure magic. Pets move fast, and keeping the eye in focus with zero effort on my part is just game changing. All photos on this post were taken with the Sigma 135 1.8 on the Sony A7RV.

Welcome! Let's start with something fun...

Welcome to my blog! Here, you will find my latest work, both personal and commissioned. To get us started, I have a couple fun macro photos I took yesterday. It was super hot out, and I didn’t want to venture out too long to find some photos, so I just stepped out into the garden to find a few subjects. The first thing to catch my eye was this not-quite-ready sunflower bud that my daughter brought home from preschool.

The sunflower is big! But I wanted to photograph something small, so I found the smallest flower in the garden, less than half the size of my pinky nail. In the tiny flower was a tiny little ant, having a feast on it’s nectar. It was super windy, so it was quite difficult to get a sharp photo of this little creature- even a tiny breeze makes this small flower sway back and forth in and out of frame.

I plan to take a lot more macro photos in the near future, so be sure to check back soon! Thanks for reading. :)
